perception
I once thought
some people buried their heads
to avoid seeing.
Later, I learned
the ostrich bends down
to tend
to what lies beneath.
What we see
is never neutral.
Perception is filtered
through what we carry.
Past experiences
quietly colouring the present.
Two people stand
in the same moment
and leave
with different worlds.
We notice what feels safe.
We block what is uncertain.
We protect ourselves
by selecting meaning.
Sometimes we call this clarity.
Sometimes wisdom,
or stubbornness.
But perception
is not the truth.
It is interpretation
wearing off certainty.
