Before you continue reading, take a moment.
Take three slow breaths.
Let the chest expand.
Exhale through the throat and nose, letting the breath settle your body.
All at your own pace.
Breath is one of the ways to return to the present moment.
Yet, for many of us, such attention doesn’t come easily.
When I’ve guided clients through pranayama (a form of breathwork), some couldn’t feel much.
It wasn’t relaxing or grounding to them, instead it felt distant.
They thought something’s wrong with them.
But it wasn’t.
It’s just that awareness is delicate.
Being present isn’t always immediate.
The truth is, most of us don’t live in the present.
We live in tomorrow as we plan, or in a memory from last week as we recall.
In today’s rush, we all think too much, seek too much,
want too much and forget the joy of just being.
— Eckhart Tolle
But your breath is always now.
Even you are away, your breath brings you back.
When you allow the flow, you might start to notice:
how you’re sitting, what you’re holding, or where you’re tensing.
You might shift your posture.
Ease a small ache.
Soften your jaw.
You might even ask yourself: How am I, really?
Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness.
— Thích Nhất Hạnh
Breath will not solve everything.
But it’ll teach you something and remind you—you’re here.
And since this is only the beginning, you don’t have to figure out how long you should stay with your breath.
Just breathe. Just return to it when you remember.
And that remembering? That’s awareness, too.
Eventually, this little awareness becomes care.
Naturally, this little more care finds you, too.
as always, thanks for reading
